Nicholas Winton

I discovered Nicholas Winton this week.  I had never heard of him before.  In 1939 he saved 669 Czechoslovakian children from certain death under the Nazi regime.  Certain death, because all of their parents perished.  What an outstanding accomplishment.  As I read his story, it is totally amazing.  He arranged the financing and transportation of those children to Great Britain.  Unlike most of the world, Britain was prepared to allow Jewish children to emigrate.  Mr. Winton was not impressed with his accomplishment.  He thought he could have done more.  Perhaps.  Many did less.

Nicholas Winton lived in what he could have done; not what he did.  Consider this:  forget what you haven’t done; celebrate what you have done.

Thank you Nicholas Winton.
